  • Deborah Lawton LPC

Deborah is a Virginia State Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Deborah completed her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Texas. Deborah provides outpatient therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families. She specializes in treating issues related to trauma, loss, neglect and abuse. Deborah also provides therapy to individuals experiencing anxiety, depression/mood disorders, self-harm, suicidality, psychosis and thought disorders, anger, substance abuse, family conflict and divorce, and attachment issues.

Counseling Experience

Deborah is Certified in Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment, which is a treatment model used to address co-occurring substance abuse and mental illness, and she is currently working towards certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). She also has specialized training in studio art, sand therapy, play therapy, trauma treatment, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and crisis intervention. Deborah takes an integrative approach towards treatment, using techniques from various models and methods, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Theraplay, mindfulness, and bibliotherapy.

Deborah has several years of experience conducting clinical assessments and providing individual, group, and family therapy in a variety of settings. She has worked with adolescents in an inpatient psychiatric ward; children and adults in outpatient settings; as well as families, youth and adults in intensive in-home and community-based services. Deborah has also managed teams of clinicians providing outpatient services to at-risk youth and their families in Washington D.C., as well as clinicians working with adolescents in a partial hospitalization program in Northern Virginia.
